Martin: Comic Genius and Artist Extraordinaire

Steve Martin is one of my favorite performers.  Admittedly I am not too familiar with his stand-up comedy, mostly due to the fact that I was too young when it was fresh (my parents are not fans, to say the least).  And some of his earlier movies I just never saw, but are wildly popular and critically acclaimed.  When I was in high school, he stole (in my opinion) the show in Little Shop of Horrors as the sadistic dentist.  And who knew he could sing?  Then followed great films like The Spanish Prisoner (proving to many he was both a comedic and dramatic actor), Bowfinger (probably my favorite Murphy or Martin movie of all times), and of course, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.  In my opinion, he is the best Oscar’s Host.  Ever.  And then he started writing plays and books.

An acclaimed musician, in 2009 he released an album of blue-grass banjo tunes and won a Grammy for his cover of Foggy Mountain Breakdown.  And to help promote the art, he funded an monetary award to recognize artists.  If you ever get a chance, go see Steve Martin – on Broadway, on stage, or playing banjo.  You won’t be sorry.

So Steve Martin…. that’s who is wasting my time these days.
